"Manager to Consultant: Parenting Your Neurodivergent Student" is a workbook for parents of autistic and neurodivergent students who are thinking about college, who are college-bound, or who are already in college.So much changes when students graduate from high school and leave their parents' home for college - for students and for their parents alike. The laws governing the relationship between the school, the student, and their parents change, and students are required to do so much more for themselves.Many parents of neurodivergent students act as daily "managers" for their students in high school - advocating for them with the school system, managing their appointments, helping them navigate their academic careers, and caring for their daily needs around the house. When students get to college, parents need to modify their role and their approach. This workbook helps you as a parent successfully navigate the transition from the role of "manager" who does for your student on a daily basis to the role of "consultant" where you offer your student coaching and support so they can do more for themselves and build critical life skills through the struggle.This workbook was built upon data from two detailed surveys. Directors of autism and neurodiversity support programs at colleges throughout the United States shared their perspectives on the topic in the first survey.
