Croatia lies east of the Adriatic Sea and thus on the Balkan Peninsula. The climate is Mediterranean near the coast, inland it becomes continental. One can distinguish three landscape regions, the Adriatic coastal region, the Dinaric mountain region and the Pannonian lowlands. The highest point is the Dinara with 1831 m. Croatia has more than 1000 islands, of which less than 50 are permanently inhabited. Croatia has eight national parks and eleven protected nature parks. The best known is the Plitvice Lakes National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also several hundred protected areas. BirdLife International has classified 48 areas as IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas). Among the native birds, the diverse raptors are particularly attractive. Among other things, the area of distribution of the vulneralbe Imperial Eagle extends to here with its westernmost extension. Croatia is a fascinating travel destination with its extraordinarily high biodiversity. This multilingual (en, de, fr, es. ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of Croatia in color. As a bonus, links to HD videos of more than 150 bird species and to audios of more than 75 species are included. Where available, links to the valuable websites of UNESCO, BirdLife International and the Ramsar Organization are provided, which characterize the country and help to find the best sites for birdwatching.
